In several disciplines, including operations research, economics, logistics, and engineering, optimization and decision-making are crucial components. Optimization is the process of selecting the best option among a range of workable options, frequently within predetermined parameters. It aims to maximize or minimize goal functions, which can include efficiency and profit maximization as well as cost and energy usage minimization. On the other hand, decision-making is the process of selecting the optimal course of action from a range of options. This procedure frequently entails coping with ambiguity, forecasting results, and weighing many aspects. Optimization techniques, which offer quantitative and organized ways to assess options and results, can improve decision making. Decision-making and optimization have a wide range of applications. They aid in choosing the best routes and stock levels for supply chain management. They support risk management and portfolio selection in the financial industry. Optimization algorithms are used in healthcare to enhance treatment plans, scheduling, and resource allocation. Engineering applies optimization to ensure best performance and cost-effectiveness in process design and control. Optimization and decisions making together provide a potent toolset that promotes productivity, creativity, and efficiency in a variety of fields, allowing for improved operational excellence and strategic planning. This special issue aims to present current results on optimization and decision making in not only deterministic environment but also uncertain environments.
This special issue is intended to present high-quality original research articles as well as review articles, short communication, and letters focused on "Optimization and Decision Making with Applications".
The scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to: · Optimization: theory and applications
