The continuous advancement of modern technology and the rapidly growing global demand for efficient, sustainable solutions have underscored the vital importance of developing novel materials. From energy conversion and storage to environmental protection and high-performance optoelectronic devices, the need for innovative materials with tailored properties is more critical than ever. As the world transitions toward smart, green, and high-performance systems, materials science plays a central role in addressing these challenges.

This Special Issue is dedicated to the synthesis, design, and comprehensive characterization of advanced materials, with a particular emphasis on their integration into optoelectronic, energy, and environmental applications. By focusing on the structure–property–performance relationships, researchers aim to develop functional materials with enhanced electrical, optical, and catalytic properties. The issue welcomes contributions on thin films, nanostructures, hybrid composites, and doped semiconductors, among others, that demonstrate significant potential in photovoltaics, photocatalysis, sensors, and energy-efficient devices. Emphasis is placed on innovative synthesis methods, scalable fabrication techniques, and in-depth analysis of physical and chemical characteristics. This collection seeks to highlight cutting-edge research that bridges fundamental understanding with practical applications, driving the development of sustainable and high-performance materials for the future.

Inorganic luminescent materials play a crucial role in modern photonic technologies, owing to their remarkable optical properties, stability, and tunable emission behavior. This special issue seeks to showcase recent advancements in the synthesis, characterization, and functional applications of these materials, encompassing rare-earth-doped compounds, quantum dots, perovskites, and phosphors, etc. Contributions will delve into the underlying luminescence mechanisms—such as energy transfer dynamics, defect modulation, and quantum confinement effects—as well as their practical implementation in solid-state lighting, display technologies, biomedical imaging, radiation detection, and energy conversion systems.

We welcome submissions of original research articles, review papers, and perspective pieces that address key challenges in material design (e.g., efficiency, scalability, and environmental sustainability) and novel applications. Interdisciplinary studies at the intersection of optics, materials science, and engineering are particularly encouraged.
