Special Issue: Optimization Problems Involving Metric Parameters in Graphs

Metric parameters in graphs—such as metric dimension, locating sets, resolving sets, and their various generalizations—have emerged as fundamental tools in the structural analysis of networks. These parameters are central to optimization problems that aim to minimize or control certain graph invariants for efficient performance in real-world applications. In particular, optimization involving metric parameters plays a critical role in diverse fields such as communication networks, cybersecurity, transportation, navigation systems, and sensor networks.

This special issue invites contributions that address recent developments in the theory and applications of metric-based optimization in graphs. In routing and wireless communication, metric dimension-based optimization ensures efficient path discovery and fault localization. In network security, locating-dominating sets and identifying codes support the design of monitoring frameworks and intrusion detection systems. Similarly, in robotic navigation and autonomous systems, landmark placement for localization is closely modelled using resolving sets, where minimality and redundancy elimination are key optimization challenges.

We encourage submissions that present novel theoretical results, algorithmic approaches, heuristics for large-scale graphs, complexity analysis, as well as interdisciplinary applications involving metric graph parameters. Contributions exploring fuzzy graphs, dynamic networks, and probabilistic models from an optimization perspective are also welcome. This issue aims to foster collaboration between graph theorists, computer scientists, and engineers working at the intersection of mathematics and applied network systems.
