Special Issue "Advancement in Decision Sciences: Models and Applications"

Most often, organisations are confronted with questions like how to make a good decision. What is really a good decision? What constitutes a poor decision? Is there any pattern in the decisions made? In the quest for finding answers to these questions, the contributions of several disciplines like statistics, mathematics, sociology, economics, information technology, operations research and behavioural science need to be acknowledged. In other words, "Decision Sciences incorporate an economic framework — a consistent, rational and objective system to "price" each possible outcome, taking into account risks and rewards." Therefore, though apparently Operations Research is a specialised field and is treated as a mutually exclusive domain by researchers and practitioners of various streams of business studies, there is an intrinsic mutual dependency. In any area of business, decisions are based on the consideration of multiple objectives and constraints with the aim of arriving at a rational outcome.

This special issue (SI) welcomes high-quality submissions from the Second International Conference on "Optimization, Learning and Analytics in Business (OLAB-2022)" based on ongoing research at the frontiers of decision science and its applications in various domains of business management. Broadly, this SI intends to present recent developments in the field of Decision Science from an 'inter-disciplinary' perspective which looks forward to uniting the concepts and practices beyond disciplines. This SI shall contribute to the existing literature by indicating the extensions of the existing models, presenting futuristic concepts and practices, and highlighting the challenges and success factors of various frameworks pertaining to the field of Decision Science. This would create substantial awareness among the practitioners and encourage them to implement the models into practice and share their feedback which would further reinforce the academic researchers.
