Themed Issue: Cloud Computing, Data Science, and Information Systems for Security and Strategic Decision-Making

2026-04-24

In the context of accelerated digital transformation, modern information systems are increasingly developed and deployed in environments characterized by large data volumes, geographical distribution, uncertainty, and operational complexity. Cloud computing technologies, together with advanced data science methods and information system architectures, provide an integrated framework for real-time data collection, processing, and analysis, facilitating security-related processes and supporting strategic decision-making.

The conceptual expansion of security beyond its traditional dimension requires interdisciplinary approaches that integrate digital infrastructures, advanced analytics, and intelligent decision-making mechanisms. From this perspective, security is addressed in a systemic and multi-sectoral manner, encompassing domains such as energy, education, public health, sustainability, climate security, as well as disaster and emergency management. The integration of information systems with cloud technologies and big data analytics enables, in the energy sector, the monitoring and optimization of critical infrastructures; in education, the development of adaptive policies and enhanced accessibility; and in healthcare, the efficient management of crises and the substantiation of strategic decisions. At the same time, sustainability is supported through the integration of environmental, economic, and social indicators within dedicated information systems. In particular, climate security and disaster management require advanced systems capable of processing heterogeneous data and supporting predictive modeling, enabling early warning, rapid response, and strengthening institutional resilience to emerging risks.

This Themed Issue aims to collect original and high-quality contributions that explore the theoretical foundations, computational methodologies, and intelligent applications of the integration of cloud computing, data science, and information systems, with a focus on extended security and strategic decision-making in critical and interdependent domains.

Topics include, but are not limited to:

⎯ Cloud-based information systems for security and intelligence analysis
⎯ Data science and machine learning applications in security-oriented environments
⎯ Decision support systems for national and organizational security
⎯ Energy security: smart grids, monitoring, optimization, and infrastructure resilience
⎯ Information systems for educational policies and educational security
⎯ Data analytics and predictive models for public health policies
⎯ Climate security: modeling and assessment of climate-related risks
⎯ Disaster and emergency management through integrated information systems
⎯ Early warning systems based on distributed data and advanced analytics
⎯ Integration of big data analytics within cloud architectures for complex risk assessment
⎯ Information management, data governance, and trust in critical systems
⎯ Systems for sustainability: integration of environmental, economic, and social indicators
⎯ Distributed architectures for real-time data processing in critical contexts
⎯ Case studies addressing security challenges in energy, education, healthcare, environment, and emergency situations

We particularly encourage submissions that propose new models, innovative architectures, analytical methods, and algorithms adapted to distributed environments, as well as empirically validated application studies demonstrating the impact of the proposed solutions in real-world contexts, especially in the fields of energy, education, healthcare, climate, and emergency management.

This Themed Issue welcomes original research articles, high-quality review papers, and rigorous application studies that contribute to the development of modern information systems for extended security and strategic decision-making. Submissions are expected to provide meaningful contributions in one or more of the following directions:

a. development of models, architectures, and conceptual frameworks for integrating cloud computing and data science into complex information systems

b. analytical methods and machine learning techniques applied in extended security contexts (energy, education, healthcare, climate, disasters)

c. data-driven intelligent systems for managing uncertainty and supporting decision-making in critical and interdisciplinary environments

The Themed Issue particularly encourages contributions that combine theoretical rigor with practical relevance, including architectural analysis, algorithmic development, performance evaluation, security considerations, and carefully validated case studies.
