Themed Issue: Scalable AI, Edge–Cloud Intelligence, and Data-Driven Modeling for Complex Systems

2026-04-29

In the context of rapid technological evolution and the proliferation of data-intensive applications, modern computational systems are increasingly required to operate across distributed, heterogeneous, and resource-constrained environments. The convergence of scalable artificial intelligence, edge–cloud computing paradigms, and data-driven modeling offers a powerful framework for addressing the challenges posed by complex, dynamic, and interdependent systems. These integrated approaches enable real-time data processing, adaptive learning, and intelligent decision-making, thereby supporting critical infrastructures and strategic operations in domains characterized by uncertainty and high complexity.

Edge–cloud intelligence facilitates the seamless interaction between decentralized data sources and centralized computational resources, allowing for efficient data fusion, low-latency analytics, and scalable deployment of machine learning models. At the same time, advances in AI-driven methodologies, including deep learning, federated learning, and autonomous optimization, contribute to the development of robust systems capable of learning from large-scale, distributed datasets while preserving data privacy and security. Furthermore, data-driven modeling techniques, such as digital twins and predictive analytics, play a crucial role in understanding, simulating, and optimizing complex systems across sectors such as energy, healthcare, smart cities, environmental monitoring, and industrial automation.

This Themed Issue aims to collect original and high-quality contributions that explore the theoretical foundations, computational methodologies, and intelligent applications of scalable AI, edge–cloud intelligence, and data-driven modeling, with a particular emphasis on extended security and strategic decision-making in critical and interdependent domains.

Topics include, but are not limited to:
